Challenge

Bridge the Gap is a quarterly publication featuring industry thought leaders, contributors, events, and news within senior living.

This particular issue, titled "The Network Edition," was intended to expand the Bridge the Gap podcast brand into a larger media network. The design needed to make the publication feel established and authoritative while remaining approachable and easy to read.

Approach

The primary challenge was creating cohesion across an entire publication made up of different contributors, topics, and content types.

I worked within the existing Bridge the Gap brand guidelines while developing a visual direction using blues and gradients. I wanted the publication to feel contemporary and somewhat technology-driven without becoming overly sterile. Senior living imagery helped balance that direction and maintain a more approachable tone.

I treated the publication as a visual system rather than a collection of unrelated pages, creating recurring elements that helped tie the issue together. One example was a raised, beveled LinkedIn follow button used throughout contributor articles.

Role

My supervisor established the overall editorial structure, including contributor outreach and page organization. I handled the majority of the creative execution, including writing copy outside of contributor articles, selecting photography, creating graphics, and designing the publication from front to back.

Outcome

The finished magazine was heavily promoted through the company's marketing campaigns and successfully translated the Bridge the Gap brand into a tangible editorial experience.

Seeing the publication move from screen to print was particularly rewarding, as it gave the brand a more established and tangible presence within the senior living industry.
